Group Lessons End This Week (Week Monday 18th-Friday 22nd May)

By |2019-04-30T13:38:08+01:00May 18th, 2015|Music|

Dear Parents

Please note that all group music classes will end this week (Week Monday 18th-Friday 22nd May).  Some individual or paired lessons may be continuing for a week or two so you should check details with your child’s tutor.

For all group classes, ALL hire instruments will be taken back from the children at the end of their classes this week in order to evaluate and prepare instruments for next year.  Children in Junior Orchestra will have their instruments taken back after all their classes are over at the end of the week.  All Senior Orchestra children will hold on to their instruments until after the 6th Class Farewell Concert on the 11th June.

Many Thanks

There will be a very special concert featuring the Junior and Senior Infant musicians on Tuesday 28th April at 6pm in the Large Room.  The concert will give you an opportunity to see how much your child has progressed throughout the year. The concert format will be as follows:

5.45pm Junior Infant violins and Senior Infant cellos should arrive for tuning.
6.00pm Concert Starts
Senior Infant Cellos
Piano demonstration
Baby Bows Junior Infant Violins
Junior Infants Pre-Twinkle

6.30pm  Interval
(Junior Infant Parents can depart, Senior Infant parents can be seated)
Tuning of Senior Infant violins

6.45pm Crotchets and Quavers Senior Infant Violins
Senior Infants Pre-Twinkle
7.15pm – Concert ends

Due to the large number of parents attending, I would ask that all Senior Infant children and their parents (with the exception of Senior Infant cellos) arrive at 6.30pm to ensure there is seating for everyone.

There will also be an opportunity after the concert to complete music registration for your child for next year and members of the Parents Music Committee will be available from 6.30pm for registration.  Please download your registration form here St-Canices-IMP-Registration-form-2015-2016-1 please ensure you have the form completed in advance together with the correct fees.  Should you have any questions relating to music choices for next year, either myself or any music committee member will be happy to advise you.

It promises to be a lovely informal evening of music for you and your child and I look forward to seeing you all there!

Well done to Senior and Junior Orchestras!

By |2019-04-30T13:38:09+01:00April 13th, 2015|Concerts|

A huge well done to both our orchestras who performed so well at Feis Ceoil on Thursday 26th March, with the Senior Orchestra winning the Peter Killian cup for the 22nd time and the Junior Orchestra claiming a well deserved 2nd place. The other orchestra competing in the competition was the Kennedy Park National School Orchestra, Wexford.

All the children were impeccably behaved on the day and were a credit to the school.  Click here to see the RTE Player Feis Ceoil documentary, “ESB Feis Ceoil: In Time”, which features the orchestras performing!

Music Registration

By |2019-04-30T13:38:09+01:00April 1st, 2015|Music|

Download your registration form here St Canices IMP Registration form 2015-2016

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The following dates and times have been arranged for you to register your child for the music programme for next year. Registration will take place in the school lobby on;

  • Tuesday 28th April 1.45-3.30pm and 7-8pm
  • Wednesday 29th April 1.45-3.30pm and 7-8pm
  • Thursday 30th April 1.45-3.30pm and 7-8pm

We would ask that if you wish your child to be part of the music programme next year that you register your child and pay the appropriate fees due at one of these registration sessions. These will be the only registration sessions for music for 2015/16. It is vital that you pay the relevant fees at the time of registration. As you can appreciate there are over 400 children currently involved in the music programme and the time tabling of music lessons for all of these children is a huge task for the administrator. Late applications cause considerable disruption to this time- tabling, which is unfair on the programme administrator

If you do not register at one of these sessions, we cannot guarantee that the instrument of choice will be available for your child for next year and a late application fee may also be applied. Details of fees and instrument choices for next year will issue in due course.  (If you are experiencing financial difficulties, you can speak in the strictest of confidence with Regina O Leary).

Many thanks for your co-operation,

Music Committee

The Junior and Senior Orchestras will be participating in the annual Feis Ceoil Competition on Thursday 26th March 2015 @ 2pm in the RDS.

Payment: If you have not already sent in the permission slip/ bus fee for your child, can you please send it in to Ms O’Leary before Monday 23rd March. We have yet to receive over 60 permission slips/fees and your child will unable to travel to the Feis Ceoil next Thursday without the permission slip being signed. The bus fee is €7 per child and €10 per adult if you intend to travel.

The details of the trip are as follows;

Departure: Buses will leave the school at 8.30am sharp. Your child should be there by 8.15am. Please ensure that your child has their instrument and a packed lunch. Mobile phones and electronic devices are not allowed. If your child suffers from travel sickness, please ensure that they have taken any required medication prior to travelling that morning.

Liffey Valley: As you are aware the trip to the Feis Ceoil has always included a highly anticipated trip to Liffey Valley Shopping Centre before heading to the RDS. Traditionally a number of parents travel with us on the day to help supervise the chidren and enjoy the performances. If you are available to travel, please indicate this on the permission slip. We suggest that children bring a small amount of money for Liffey Valley as they normally buy a meal in McDonalds.

What to Wear: Both orchestras will wear their school uniform, grey trousers/skirt, white polo t-shirt, red orchestra sweatshirt, white knee length socks for girls and black school shoes for all (no runners please). Orchestra sweatshirts will be given to your child at rehearsals next week and will be taken back as they leave the bus when we return to Kilkenny. Can you please ensure that your child’s sweatshirt is clean for Thursday.

Return to Kilkenny: We hope to return to Kilkenny by 4.45pm, however if you wish to check in with us at any stage you can ring the music mobile on 087 7917960
