Busking In McDonagh Junction Friday 20th

The Senior Orchestra will be busking in McDonagh Junction this Friday from 1pm – 2.30pm (please note the revised times).  The children will have a short break in between.

Your child has been given an orchestra sweatshirt at orchestra practice today and they should wear this for busking,  together with a white polo shirt and jeans  Please also bring Santa Hats!  Please also ensure your child brings all their Christmas music with them for busking!

Busking this year is in the Workhouse Square area of McDonagh Junction (ie where the coffee shops and restaurants are located)  and is in aid of Enable Ireland.  Volunteer parents will be collecting on the day.

Senior Orchestra children who are also in the Junior or Senior Jazz band and who will be performing at Eamon’s concert later on Friday night will keep their sweatshirt after busking for the show.  All other children will need to return the sweatshirt after busking so please bring a coat or jacket to wear afterwards.

Breakfast Morning

Thanks to all of our volunteers for their lovely baking and hot chocolate making for the breakfast morning – it was a  really great morning, and probably our best one yet in terms of atmosphere. One little junior infant said it was the happiest day of his life!

Rehearsal and Concert With NSO, Fergus Sheil and Tasmin Little

As you are aware the Senior Orchestra has been rehearsing very hard over the past few weeks for their concert with the RTE NSO and world-renowned violinist Tasmin Little on Friday 6 December in the Watergate Theatre.  You will already have received 2 free tickets (via your child) to attend this special mini concert in the Watergate Theatre.

The following are the details for that day:

Friday 6 December

5.00pm                          Children should arrive at the Watergate Theatre with their music and instrument in concert attire (orchestra sweatshirt, white polo shirt, white knee-high socks for girls, uniform skirt/trousers, black shoes and no runners please).

5.30pm                    Orchestra rehearsal with Ms O Leary

6.15pm                    Fergus Shiel and violinist Tasmin Little will arrive at the Watergate to rehearse with the orchestra.

6.45pm                    Short break

7.00pm                   Concert commences

The concert should be over at 7.30pm approx.

8 – 10.00pm         RTE NSO Concert in St Canice’s Cathedral accompanied by violinist Tasmin Little.  All the orchestra members will be given free tickets to attend this concert. (The orchestra will not be performing at this concert)  Parents/guardians who wish to attend will need to purchase their own tickets for this concert.

It is hoped that as many parents as possible will also attend this concert and support the event, as this is a great opportunity to hear our national orchestra and violinist Tasmin Little play here in Kilkenny.  The Arts Council and Kilkenny Co Council are funding this event and our orchestra has been afforded a very unique opportunity to participate in the workshops and concert with professional musicians, at no additional cost to our music programme or to our students.  I wish to acknowledge the help of the music teachers in the school who have been of tremendous assistance in preparing the children for this event and also to some of our past pupils from Transition Year, Loreto who have done trojan work in the past couple of weeks working with individual groups.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the children and I look forward to seeing you on the night at both concerts where a wonderful evening’s entertainment is promised.

Tickets for the RTE NSO Concert in St Canice’s Cathedral are €16/14 available to purchase at Watergate Theatre Kilkenny (056) 776 1674
